Note: The entire northern unit, consisting of Ferry Bluff and Cactus Bluff, is closed to all entry from November 15 to April 1 to protect roosting bald eagles.

The Great Sauk State Trail passes through the Villages of Sauk City & Prairie du Sac, and the Town of Prairie du Sac, continuing in to the Sauk Prairie Recreation area.
